What’s So Special About Fiber Internet?

One of the latest technologies that has reached the market for Internet services is fiber optic Internet, but is it as good as everyone claims? Fiber optic Internet may seem like a brand-new technology, but it has actually been around since the early days of the Internet. The backbone of the Internet is what allows people around the world to connect, hidden deep underground, and most of it is fiber-optic cables. These cables can give you access to a wide range of speeds, from extremely high speeds to very low speeds. For example, the copper lines used in DSL cables allow higher speed signals to be transmitted over a distance, making them ideal for fast Internet connections to distant locations. 

Fiber-optic connections have been in place for over 30 years, with fiber-optic internet connections being the last to be built. When the cable reaches its end, it can be transformed into any other type of Internet connection easily.

One of the advantages of fiber optic cables is that they use passive optical network technology (PON), which means that no energy is required in the system. Fiber-optic cables for the Internet do not require wires to generate power, and they are not as prone to outages as cable internet, which requires such a hookup. You won’t be in the internet dark when you’re in the dark.

For example, gigabit internet speeds that offer users speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second (mbps) or 10,000 times faster than cable internet – if you know how mbps reflects Internet speed, it’s easy to see that fiber can be much, much faster. Fiber-optic internet speeds are much higher than the average speed of a cable internet connection or even a mobile phone on a strong network. 

It is worth noting that fiber-optic Internet is usually connected at speeds of up to one gigabyte, but some providers offer it at lower levels as well. For example, it can reach a download speed of 1 Gbps, while upload speeds are close to those of providers like Verizon’s Fios.

It is clear to all that fiber-optic internet is the future of broadband, but it is expensive to build. For most companies, it is not hugely expensive, and some fiber solutions start at $15-20 or less. On the flip side, Fiber infrastructure is not an easy process to build and it’s not just expensive to build it. Some of the larger expenditure has more to do with infrastructure than with fiber itself, such as fiber-optic cable laying, installation and maintenance. When you download videos or high-resolution content such as video games, movies, music and other video content, fiber is the one you will always want.
